Had to stand in line for about 20 minutes, but it was worth it. Clam chowder was delicious, full of flavor comes in a decent size bowl. Place was comfortable with many clean tables outside , parking was not great , had to park in the street. Staff were polite and professional would love to see them work a bit faster, they are a bit slow.
We accidentally went here and meant to go to the place next door. But it all worked out because I loved the grilled oysters here! The chargrilled flavor paired so well with the chorizo butter and I wish that I had ordered 50 of them. The Portuguese fish stew could have used more onion, garlic, and spice for my taste. The fried fish was good and fresh, but nothing too unique. I'd recommend this place for the grilled oysters but would say the other dishes were average and not anything to write home about.
Went to the Bodega Head Trail and stopped by after for some lunch. There was definitely a line but it makes sense since you order/pay and pick up in the same area. The line moves quickly and the food comes out the second you order it. I ordered the Crab Sandwich, Prawn Cocktail, White Clam Chowder and Manhattan Clam Chowder with a side of French bread The Crab Sandwich was small but filled with meat. The Sandwich itself didn't have much flavor and the crab is cold. I ended up dipping my sandwich into the White Clam Chowder. The White Clam Chowder my favorite dish here. It was so delicious, it had so much clam meat and I loved the garlic flavors. You definitely need to get a side of French bread, it came warm - it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Manhattan Clam Chowder has a tomato base but it reminded me of red sauce. Lastly, the prawn cocktail was so tasty! It was perfectly poached but they could do a better job on deveining them. Overall this place is definitely worth waiting for and is the perfect place to grab lunch on a sunny afternoon!
Their clam chowders were amazing. Theo red clam chowder has a tomato base and its bit of spice makes it a delicious and unique soup. The sandwiches are small but you get pure seafood in the middle. If Spud gets around to reading this, I feel like the sandwiches would taste great with cucumbers or pickles. They have an orange cat that comes around and is so cute and playful.
Solid spot for some clam chowder and crab sandwiches. Small menu but food was very good. Went on a Thursday around 12:30 and only had to wait a short time in line to order. They hand you your food right after ordering so no waiting. The crab sandwich was a little on the small side but very good. You sit at picnic tables outside to eat or can carry it across the street to the benches on the bay. I would recommend it!
Friday, July 5th, 2024. Two of my cousins highly recommended this place while in Bodega Bay, obviously famous for their clam chowders voted best on the coast. Or should I say CHOWDAH? I've known about this place for years now, but never actually visited since the line is always hella long. During the long 4th of July weekend, we decided to drive up Bodega Bay to cool off from the heatwave that's affecting some parts of the Bay Area....unless you live along the coast. We arrived at approximately just past one and the weather was cool, breezy with the fog just lingering along the coastline. Dropped off the wifey up front to get in line while I searched for parking. (NOTE: People were parking in spaces with signs that read "Private Property. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at owners' expense," so take heed. I initially parked quite a few distance away, but as I was walking back, I noticed a street up a hill behind the place so I asked a local if I could park there. He gave me the directions and managed to relocate closer to the place.) Met the wifey in line (along with the dogs) and placed our order as soon as we got to the front and got the following: - 2 New England Style White Clam Chowder $9.95 - 1 Manhattan Style Red Clam Chowder $9.95 - 1 Crab Sandwich (Quarter pound of Crab Meat) $17.95 - 1 Prawn Cocktails $10.95 - 1 Loaf of Italian Sourdough French Bread $3.98 Verdict: OK, the word best is subjective and more often than not, it's a personal preference. The white chowder was good as I found it to be on the lighter side with a hefty amount and bits of clam and potatoes. The soup was on the thinner side and runny not thick. I prefer a thicker chowder myself and the flavor just didn't wow me. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Was it the "BEST" I've ever had? Again, it's a personal preference so they obviously are doing something right and great for them. I actually preferred the Manhattan Style Clam Chowder as this was more robust in flavor with a great tang to it. I was dipping the bread into the soup and liberally slathering it with some butter. Yup, this was right up my alley. The Crab Sandwich was quite light but satisfying. For a quarter pound of crab meat, it had enough of the crab meat to fill us both up and it was very fulfilling. They didn't overdress the crab meat so you can still taste the freshness of the crab. The Prawn Cocktails were fresh and also light. It came with a wedge of lemon and marinara sauce. I expected them to be bigger, but it was a nice change of pace on the tastebuds. Although the line that forms could be long due to their obvious popularity, they are actually very efficient and are very well-prepared for the rush of customers. I believe the sandwiches already come pre-prepped as that was the first thing given to us. The service and interaction are very friendly, and you can tell it's a family-run business. ***Here's a tip on parking*** There's an unnamed road in the parking lot of Fisherman's Cove next door. Turn left on Bay Flat Road behind both businesses and drive uphill to park on the side of the road. This is just less than a block away and the closest you'll get to without parking on private property.
I was excited to try this "addictive" and "world famous award winning" clam chowder. The line was extremely long (we waited about 40 minutes) but it was worth it! I can see why this clam chowder has won awards. It was creamy, savory, flavorful, and paired so well with the crackers. There's no indoor seating. You just order at the window and then find an outdoor seat. If you're in the area and have time to wait in line, I highly recommend you try this place out!
We came at the end of the day on a Sunday, so there was no issue with finding street parking close by & walking over, no line, & plenty of open seating that was clean. Crab cakes were sold out by then, but we were able to order a Crab Sandwich & New England Clam Chowder. The staff we interacted with were very friendly & pleasant! Little one was even given a free package of Goldfish crackers--so nice! The sandwich is smallish & simple, but it is loaded with fresh crab. Chowder is one of those preference things, but I absolutely loved their version!!! It was thinner, had lots of clam & perfectly cooked potatoes, & was a little herbaceous. It came with 2 packages of oyster crackers. (For comparison, the mister prefers a creamier, thicker version of chowder that we grew up with from Monterey.) It's a limited menu, so some kiddos might be hard pressed to find something they would like. It's also limited seating, so I'm glad we didn't come at a time when more people were there. Overall, we had a nice, tasty time!
